Helichrysum absolute – Immortelle

Helichrysum italicum

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES: Solvent extracted oils are not heated as happens with steam distillation. Heat affects the therapeutic properties of an oil a great deal, often for the better as with the blue azulene components of some essential oils. Helichrysum absolute is very viscous, dark in color and is an amazing fixative, while distilled helichrysum oils are light, almost clear in color, and very thin. Little research has been done regarding the therapeutic properties of helichrysum absolute. It may have many of the properties of the steam distilled version—or not. This is simply unknown by science or the industry, as far as I can determine, at this time.

PLANT FAMILY: Compositae

EXTRACTION METHOD: CO2 solvent extracted

AROMATIC CONSIDERATIONS: Helichrysum absolute is produced from the yellow flowers of the plant. It is used for its deep-sweet, honey-like note and is a great fixative to essential oil blends containing other oils. It is added to provide a fruity, spicy, warm base note as well as for whatever helichrysum healing properties that are found in this solvent extracted oil.

As with all essential oils, never use them undiluted. Do not take internally unless working with a qualified and expert practitioner. Keep away from children. If applying an essential oil to your skin always perform a small patch test to an insensitive part of the body (after you have properly diluted the oil in an appropriate carrier.
